This short list of fun urban fantasy books and series blurs the lines a bit between a strict definition of urban fantasy and say – paranormal or supernatural fantasy. But what I think is most important when putting a list like this together is the quality of the books that make the cut.
If you’ve ever felt creatively stalled or unable to execute existing ideas then this book is definitely for you. I couldn’t recommend it highly enough.
In this list I’ve included tales that involve the magical, the scary, the unlikely, the hilarious, and even the seemingly mundane that make up what I believe to be some of the best reads in this category.

My hope is that if you’re a lifetime fantasy fan like myself you’ll recognize some solid pillars of the genre while discovering a few new and promising titles too.
His style comes across as so effortless and fun that it’s enough to make you believe it might just be possible for you to tell great jokes too. That is, until you try.
Kurt Vonnegut is one of my all time favorite authors. I’m in awe of his ability to communicate volumes in a single sentence. Especially since his sentences are so often funny on top of being so damn clever.
